Enthusiastic, earnest, intent, industrious, enterprising, hardworking, persevering and diligent. These are synonymous with the word Eager. I think these words are also a good reflection of farmers.
If we didn’t love it, we wouldn’t do it. I know you’re thinking it too, there are days that you wonder “why didn’t I just stay with the 8-5 job?” And yet, the next morning, we get up, put on our boots and march on. Day after day, following our passions and living our dreams.
At some point, we realize that our passion and dream has become bigger than just us. It’s no longer just the spouse and the kids. We need help to take it to the next level.
Whether part of that dream is to teach the next generation, expand the farm to meet the demands of customers, or growing to accommodate energetic entrepreneurs, my dream is to help you meet yours.
My name is Sheri Salatin and a little over 16 years ago, I found myself at the doorstep of an old farmhouse in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. I fell in love with the farmer’s son and we were married in November of 2002. Three kids later, farming full time and loving it, we found ourselves on the front lines for family farms all over the world.
A common cry was heard among them all, “Where can I find good help?” And yet we were also hearing, “I want to farm, but I don’t know how to get in.” To borrow a quote from my father-in-law – If the young farmers can’t get in, the old farmers can’t get out.
I started Eager Farmer in response to these questions. I want it to be a platform for you to reach the next level. Whatever that level may be. Perhaps it’s finally holding a shovel in your hand, or quitting the 8-5 job to start the farm or going to the next level in your business.
It’s all about the people. We are the land healers, the creation caretakers, the soil stewards. If we don’t love the land and encourage healthy agricultural landscapes, our children and grandchildren will grow up in a pitiful world. My goal for this website is to help you make the connections that will further your dreams of land healing.
My mission is to establish connections, kick-start partnerships and encourage healthy agricultural landscapes that span the generations.
My husband says it well – It’s about building the forever farm.
So, from one farmer to another, let’s connect with other enthusiastic, hardworking, persevering, eager farmers and watch the change in our land, communities and around the world!
