Reports to Farm/Production Manager
Pastured Poultry Managers are responsible for:
Maintaining production quality of all pastured poultry
Achieving weekly, monthly, and annual production goals
Increasing production efficiency while maintaining / reducing production loss
Maintaining appropriate food, water, shelter and other necessities throughout the lifecycle of pastured poultry
Monitoring feed consumption, weight gain, and animal health - making adjustments where needed
Insuring quality of processing and packaging for highest standard of finished product
Insuring proper shelter and predator protection for rapidly changing environmental conditions
Day-to-day tasks include:
Moving poultry pens
Maintain and improve shelter conditions as needed
Filling and maintaining feed and water throughout the day
Insuring all poultry equipment is functioning properly and repairing when needed
Monitoring animal health, habits and behavior
Participating in processing, evisceration, cut-up and packaging
Insuring quality standards
Preparing brooders for incoming chicks
Moving chicks from brooders to pastured
Catching grown chickens for processing
Working in all weather conditions
Must be a top-notch communicator!
Keen observation skills
Ability to work for long periods independently as well as work well on a team
Must be able to work in all weather conditions
Creative troubleshooting and problem solving
Experience with animal husbandry
Experience with chicken processing
Basic carpentry and mechanical skills
Adaptability, Versatility, Creativity
