The Farm
Persimmon Ridge Family Farm is a 600+/- contiguous acre property located in Neshoba County, Mississippi, approximately 70 miles northeast of Jackson, Mississippi. Approximately 150 acres is pasture, mostly fenced. Thirty acres is cutover and the balance is in mixed pine/hardwood or planted pine with several creeks and ponds on the property plus two water wells. There are three hay barns and a stable/implement building. The owner has a small house on the property as well as a large “Barn” which is often used by youth groups for retreats.

There are three hay barns and a stable/implement building.

The farm, recently a cow-calf operation, is migrating to grass finishing beeves with the intent of migrating to a fully regenerative, multispecies farm. We need someone to 1) assist in refining the strategy and developing the plan to achieve the vision and 2) be responsible for day to day operations.. We are looking for an “player-manager”.

Goals/Vision for Farm

Vision
Establish an economically sustainable, site-appropriate, vertically integrated agricultural enterprise through use of regenerative agricultural practices. Develop strong relationships between consumer and farmer. Demonstrate robust practices and economic vigor to other farmers. Help equip others to do the same. Be a blessing to neighbors and a faithful testimony of God’s goodness.

Background
The owner is committed to this vision but neither has the time nor expertise to execute it. He has historically worked with others to try and execute the vision. Such endeavors have failed due to a) lack of common vision for the farm when there was full time help or b) lack of reliable full time help when a part time manager willing try regenerative practices was available. This has prompted a reconsideration of our execution strategy. Rather than try again to find reliable help for a part time manager, we are fully committing to regenerative agriculture, looking for someone on the ground qualified to lead us into multispecies, regenerative agriculture.

The owner ultimately seeks a partner relationship with the ideal candidate where both contribute to the development of the farm. The owner does not live on the farm but visits weekly (and would work if given guidance!).

Housing provided

An older home on the property will be fixed up for the successful candidate’s premises.

Qualifications Required

5% Planning / 5% Management / 90% Execution

The successful candidate will work with the owner to refine a farm strategy and develop a comprehensive plan to achieve the vision. The candidate is expected to bring expertise and substantial insight into the “on-farm” elements of the plan and will oversee and, at least initially, be solely responsible for daily operations.

The ideal candidate is someone who has prospered in the execution of multiple phases of multispecies regenerative practices. He has excelled in roles of increasing responsibilities on an economically prosperous, vertically integrated, sustainable ag enterprise. The candidate has observed much about the inner workings of such an enterprise and is ready to apply such learnings. This candidate’s reasonable next step is to grow his own successful enterprise.
