Habitera Farms is an 84-acre farm in Brentwood, California, dedicated to growing delicious, nutrient-rich fruits and vegetables using organic, non-GMO, and sustainable practices. Our farm produces mulberries and we are the largest mulberry producer in the United States. We are also selectively exploring growing other super fruits in the near future. Founded in 2018, we are committed to responsible farming that nourishes both people and the planet.

Position Description

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a growing and dynamic farm operation. We are looking for a passionate and skilled Farm Manager who wants to make a meaningful impact while advancing their career in sustainable agriculture.

As Farm Manager, you will lead farm operations and manage the team of a few farm workers, ensuring that Habitera Farms thrives through each season. This role offers tremendous room for growth as the farm expands and develops new projects. This role requires the candidate to either live on-site or relocate near the farm.
The Farm Manager will report directly to the farm General Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Farm Operations & Crop Management:
Oversee the full crop cycle: planting, cultivating, irrigation, pest/disease control, trellising, harvesting, and post-harvest handling.
Implement and maintain organic and sustainable farming methods.
Manage cover cropping, composting, soil health, and weed suppression strategies.
Supervise and maintain the irrigation system, including troubleshooting and repairs.

Optimizing Yield and Farming Costs:
Optimize costs while maintaining high production quality.
Track crop yields and identify ways to maximize efficiency and profitability.

Team Leadership & Administration:
Hire, train, and manage farm staff, seasonal workers, and contractors.
Foster a positive, collaborative, and productive farm team.
Maintain accurate records for crops, inputs, certifications, and operational performance.
Oversee compliance with organic certification and food safety regulations.
Develop and implement farm schedules, logistics, and workflow planning.

Community Engagement & Marketing:
Assist in creating newsletters, social media updates, and community engagement content.
Support U-Pick and farm stand operations during peak seasons.
Represent the farm at local events, farmers' markets, etc.

Expectations

B.S. in Horticulture, Agriculture, Sustainable Systems, or a related field (preferred).
3–5 years in a similar farm management or operations role.
Experience with organic farming methods and certification processes (preferred).
Knowledge of berry farming (preferred).
Strong mechanical and irrigation system troubleshooting skills.
Bilingual in Spanish and English
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
