Description

Description

Work as a team on an 80+ head herd rotational grazing herdshare dairy & beef farm, pork and poultry operation. We produce raw dairy products (fluid milk, butter, and cream), 100% grass-fed/finished beef, free-range chicken eggs, pastured poultry & pork, and honey as some of our farm products. Our farming practices do not use herbicides or pesticides. Broilers are raised on pasture but supplemented with non-GMO, soy-free feed. Layers are free-range with a similar supplemental diet. Organically raised greenhouse produce also in production.

Also on the farm is a portable sawmill which allows us to produce garden stakes and building materials for farm infrastructure projects.

We require someone who will take ownership of duties, work in all types of weather, self-motivated, pays strong attention to detail, ambitious, eager and willing to learn, dependable, positive attitude, and strong work ethic. These are long days in all kinds of weather conditions. The day ends when the work is completed, and all the animals are cared for.

Location Specifics

We are located in southside Virginia in the western part of Dinwiddie County, approximately 30 minutes west of Petersburg and 60 minutes southwest of Richmond. The immediate area consists of conventional cropping and beef operations, in addition to planted pine. Unlike most of our farmer neighbors, we do not use any chemical fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides. Our primary market is the greater Richmond area and east of that toward the coast. We have on-farm pick-up as well as deliveries to stores and private residences. We also attend seasonal farmer's markets.

Position Description

This is a six month internship program. Start date is flexible. 1-2 positions available. We may be able to accommodate a husband and wife team if both are willing and able to work equally hard.
